Psalm singing

Song writing has been a little slow so far in 2013. As in one song written so far this year…

So this morning I challenged myself – take a psalm and use it as the base for a song! I chose Psalm 139, as it’s one of my favourites, and this is what I came up with:

You’re Familiar With My Ways

O Lord you have searched me, and you know me

You’re familiar with my ways

You know my resting and my rising

You’re famliar with my ways

You know my thoughts Lord, completely

Before they’re on my tongue

You know my going and my coming

You’re familiar with my ways

You hem me in behind and before

You have laid your hand upon me

How precious to me are your thoughts

And you’re familiar with all my ways

And you’re familiar with all my ways

Up in the heavens or down in the depths

Wherever I go you are there

Your hand will guide me and hold me safe

Wherever I go you are there

Surely the darkness cannot hide me

Or keep me from your gaze

For to you the night will shine like the day

You’re familiar with all of my ways

You hem me in behind and before

You have laid your hand upon me

How precious to me are your thoughts

And you’re familiar with all of my ways

And you’re familiar with all my ways

Search me and know my heart o God

Test me and know my anxious thoughts

Remove offensive ways from me

And lead me in the way everlasting

I was not hidden from you in the darkness

I was fearfully and wonderfully made

For you created my inmost being

You’re famliar with all my ways

Before one of them came to be

You ordained all my days

And I will praise you, for you made me

And you’re familiar with all my ways

You hem me in behind and before

You have laid your hand upon me

How precious to me are your thoughts

And you’re familiar with all of my ways

And you’re familiar with all of my ways

Isn’t it good to know that God knows us so completely?! I definitely find this very reassuring. As I said, my favourite psalm!
